About their work…
This show features a selection of works from a dozen different artists. These works are from the Foundations 1, Advanced Art and the AP Portfolio classes.
Foundations 1: Students are learning the basics of art production from the elements of art and principles of design to more advanced methods of using graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, oil pastels, watercolor, acrylic and mixed media. They are encouraged to develop personalized solutions to prompts in order to develop their own artistic voice. The pieces included in this display are in response to the prompts of Sacred Space, Identity and Mythology.
Photo 2: Students expand their basic understanding of camera functions and manipulations as well as their ability to use Photoshop to enhance their work. The assignments displayed were for a Composition exploration and Macro photography.
Advanced Art: Students who have already mastered the entry level painting and drawing courses work through thematic units where they can further push their technical skills as they also work on developing their own artistic voice. This class is typically taken their junior year in preparation for the AP Portfolio.
AP Portfolio: Students have the ability to submit a portfolio of 15 high quality works of art to the College Board. Each student must develop their own theme that they explore over the school year to be submitted in early May. Their portfolio will be evaluated by 3 different readers who will assign the portfolio a score. Typically scores of 3, 4 or 5 receive college credit depending on the institution the student applies to.
